Spring 2023: Noise

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the twelfth issue of Voices & Visions, themed “Noise.” After our last few publications, which were centered around reflection and renewal, we thought it was time for a theme that could be interpreted in outward, energetic, and textural ways. The poems, short stories, and drawings in this issue are attuned, both to the noise abound in the world around us, and to the capabilities of language and art to externalize our own dynamism and power. “I’m a product of everything I’ve ever heard,” writes Regan Spinks (Brenau University) in her poem, ‘everything you are missing.’ In a pastel drawing by Ann Angel (Mount Mary University), huge, crashing waves fill the canvas. Ayumi Beeler (Smith College) juxtaposes a quiet car ride full of unspoken weight with the cathartic community and noise of a rock concert.

As always, we’re endlessly grateful to our readers and contributors for making this issue possible, and we’re really excited to share these submissions, which are particularly descriptive and charged. Additionally, we’re happy to share that, starting next semester, Voices & Visions will be run by a multi-talented new team of student editors who are already planning to take the journal in great, creative directions. So be sure to keep up with us here and on Instagram (@voicesandvisionsjournal), and make some noise for them in the fall!

Sincerely,

The Voices & Visions Editorial Team
